Dark and Deep…go ahead and dive in – it’s sugar free!

I love this because it’s easy!  And it keeps well in the fridge – make a batch and use it in your coffee for an instant mocha.  On top of Greek-style yogurt, NSA ice cream, mixed with some whipped cream for a great cookie/fruit dip…whatever strikes your fancy.

1 cup water
1 1/2 cups Splenda Granular (or Whey Low Granular)
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
Pinch salt
1 tablespoon vanilla

Optional:  For an updated taste add one or more of the following:  1/2 teaspoon instant coffee crystals, 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, or any LorAnn oils  when cooking.

In a saucepan whisk together the water, Splenda, cocoa powder, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil for 3-4 minutes until thick. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Makes 10 servings.

I bet if you put this with a chocolate sf cake (no frosting, just the sauce), with whip cream on top, you’d have one heck of a hot fudge cake

      Yes, you would!!!

  8. dear Linda–here is what i used: Hershey’s cocoa -unsweetened–and the yellow box of Splenda (granulated)–and of course the rest of the ingredients–turned out bad –taste the bland cocoa–nothing helps—what did I do wrong? all you taste is the hershey’s cocoa and it is bitter—

    1. Linda says:

I’m so sorry this didn’t turn out for you…not sure what happened, unless there was not enough Splenda, accidentally.

Usually it is very dark chocolate taste and only slightly bitter-ish…but not really bitter – just that super dark choc flavor. But it definitely has a sweetness to it – thick and rich.

I’ve used Hershey’s, Ghirardelli’s, bulk unsweetened – all kinds and it works well with those. I hope you can try it again – even half a batch! – and that you love it, too!
